Canny Architects completed the design for Residence Hawthorn, a contemporary project in the suburbs of Melbourne, Australia, especially envisioned for a family with three teenage boys. The main objective required by the owners was the existence of independent living zones for the needs of the growing family. A traditional facade was chosen in order to complement the street-scape, while the opposite facade and rooms (facing the swimming pool and backyard) are highly contemporary.

The rear of the home showcases a distinctive curved pool house and plenty of outdoor leisure opportunities: “Dual outdoor entertaining areas with canopy skylights and recessed alfresco heaters allow for continuous enjoyment throughout all seasons. All of these elements were carefully integrated and designed with the landscape“. The modern-minimalist interiors offer a large amount of natural light, being well connected to the outdoors.

House With Glass Corridors And Picturesque View Nearby the River, in Maryland, USA

The Tred Avon River House, located in Maryland was designed by architect Robert M. Gurney. The house is surrounded by a beautiful meadow of greenery, offering stunning views, each time you go out for a walk. “The house is crisply detailed and minimally furnished to allow views of the picturesque site to provide the primary sensory experience. The house was designed as a vehicle to experience and enjoy the incredibly beautiful landscape, known as Diamond Point, seamlessly blending the river’s expansive vista with the space.”

Share on Facebook Tweet Comment Structured on a single level, the house boasts floor-to-ceiling windows, replace the walls, allowing the sun to flood the house with light. Composed of three rectangular blocks, the interior looks pretty compact and unitary (glass corridors link the spaces between them). Despite the fact that the house is located right alongside the river, there is no danger of flooding. The whole house is elevated four feet above grade. To blend with the picturesque surroundings, the house “suffered” a series of  interventions that soften its environmental footprint. Armandale House is a residential project defined by Jackson Clements Burrows in one of Melbourne’s suburbs, in Australia. The existing Victorian house was renewed, in order to obtain a more contemporary look. More spacious than before and equipped with an upper level extension, the Armandale House exhales elegance and sophistication. “The scope of work included a complete refurbishment of the existing Victorian House and a new upper level extension separated into two private zones for parents and children.”  Basically, the main floor is reserved to social interaction, while the upper floor accommodates the more private areas.  Share on Facebook Tweet Comment

Carefully Orchestrated Indoor-Outdoor Encounters: Ottawa River House

To move through this home on the Ottawa River envisioned by Christopher Simmonds Architect Inc. is to enjoy a carefully orchestrated sequence of encounters with its picturesque natural setting. Views and light penetrate the spatial composition throughout its interlocking interior volumes.The starting point for the planning of this house was to identify a place on the site which afforded a view of Parliament Hill, and to locate the principal living spaces there. An elongated entry with a natural cedar planked ceiling brings visitors by way of the southerly courtyard to the very core of the site and the home.

The result is a home with stunning views, and which enjoys both an intimate connection with the courtyard and a more expansive connection with the river. Flooring is a combination of white porcelain tile and dark stained, quarter-sawn oak. Cabinets in dark stained ash contrast similarly with the white quartz counter-tops. The house’s structure is embedded in the mountain, offering direct access to the woods, through a simple metallic staircase. You’re instantly on the top of the house, on the terrace and from there, from “the top of the world” you see  both, the natural wonders (the woods) and those made by man (the skyscrapers).  ”The entire core of the house was redesigned to feature an open plan, high ceilings and a sleek flat roof. The front door, flanked by large glass panels, opens to a wide entry and provides an open sight line across the living area, though 12ft glass walls and 8ft glass sliding pocket doors, to the patio and pool. Gorgeous Luminous Home Surrounded By The Lush Vegetation

On a fringe of land, close the the shoreline, there lies the Sunset Point Residence, an exquisite refined home with high ceilings and elegant decorations. More accurately, located in San Juan Island, Washington, the house opens up to a staggering view over the blue waters. “The home was designed with two mirroring curved glass walls that frame views, and let maximum light into the home. The architecture is composed of two pavilions arranged to embrace the site and the natural forces acting upon it”. The studio responsible with designing and completing this jewel is David Vandervort Architects (Seattle).

The clients wanted a comfortably-safe home, a dreamy spot and a relaxing ambience. Their request had to do with inspiration. The design studio introduced plenty of natural materials in the house’s structure, such as stained cedar siding, for a crispier rustic effect. The Sunset Point residence ended up being a bright and vivid place, where people can relax and enjoy the small things in life. The living room, with its high ceilings, all wrapped in wood and neutral colours (carefully selected) is a great place for daydreaming and finding your inspiration (close to the sea water) over a cup of coffee. The courtyard is also a good place to spend time with friends and relatives, close to the fireplace, after an exhausting day.
